A newcomer to the world of F1, the Lusail International Circuit is situated on the outskirts of the city of Doha in Qatar. It’s set to continue, with a 10 year deal signed to host the sport from 2023.

Previously being used for motorcycle racing, the track circuit was renovated prior to the inaugural F1 race, with the facilities upgraded and capacity of the area increased from 8,000 to 52,000. The fastest lap was set by Max Verstappen in 2023 at 1:24.319.

Track Layout:

The track was built in 2004 with a view to host motorcycle racing. It’s a fast, flowing track with a blend of medium and high speed corners and a couple of left hand bends which are popular with the riders. A long straight section of over a kilometre also provides lots of exciting overtaking opportunities.

Notable Features:

The track is surrounded by artificial grass to prevent sand from entering the track surface. It features lighting for night races. The venue offers a wide range of areas to host other events. As temperatures can reach over 40 degrees C in the summer, F1 events are usually held in October when the temperature is a comfortable 28 degrees.
