| 2024 Formula One Constructors Points: Recap

In this article:

The 2024 Formula One season is in full swing, and with more than half of the races completed, the constructors standings are tightening.

McLaren currently sits at the top of the standings for the first time in ten years, in a competition so close that every point matters.

Oracle Red Bull Racing has been bumped down to second. This is a place they are not used to after having such a dominant season in 2023.

Further back is Ferrari, only 31 points behind Red Bull, so they still can’t be written off; one or two good races will shoot them up the standings.

Here is the full list of constructors in order of points:

McLaren – 476 points

Towards the end of last year, McLaren started to show all that they are back, and this development has continued with the side winning four races so far and overtaking Red Bull for that top spot in the constructors championships.

Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have both picked up their maiden wins this season, with Norris consistently challenging for the top spot on the podium.

Andrea Stella and Zak Brown have proven to be more than a dynamic duo, building the team up from back-place starters to now-title competitors.

Norris is also aiming to challenge the individual championships; he is just 59 points away from leader Verstappen and is closing every race.

Oracle Red Bull Racing – 456 points

The Dutch team started strong, looking like another easy season was theirs, scoring the 1,2 in the first two races of the year. Australia was a shock, with Max Verstappen retiring in the first in the lap after rear-break issues caused smoke and fire and Sergio Perez only managing fifth.

The following two races after that returned to normal, but in Miami McLaren showed their pace, and ever since then they have been consistent in challenging Red Bull for that top spot.

Consistency has also been a problem for the team, Sergio Perez has seemed once again to struggle in the car. While he is still scoring points, they are more often on the lower end of the table. This has allowed the Papayas to close the gap.

Team management and leadership is also an issue, the team has and is losing vital members such as Adrian Newey at a very quick rate. This has come after team principal Christian Horner had accusations made against him, seemingly shaking the team. While he has been cleared from these dynamics, they have certainly changed.

Ferrari – 425 points

Arguably Ferrari could be further ahead, they have had a mixed bag so far with some great victories, including Leclerc winning both his home race and the Tifolsis home race recently in Monza.

Sainz also had an amazing victory in Australia, coming back from appendix surgery after dropping out of Jeddah just two weeks earlier.

If Ferrari can sort their jumbled strategy decisions out, they too could pose a big threat, especially with Lewis Hamilton making a big move to their team next year.

Mercedes – 309 points

Mercedes have been on the up after a mixed start to the season, which saw them score just 26 points in the first two races.

The German team seemed to have a breakthrough in Canada, scoring 25 points and placing third and fourth; since then, a podium place has always been on the radar. They have won three races so far, including winning Lewis Hamilton’s home Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Luck hasn’t always been on their side, they achieved first and second at the Belgian Grand Prix; however, after pre-race inspection found the car being underweight, Mercedes say this was due to higher-than-expected car wear and the British driver’s own weight loss during the race.

Aston Martin Aramco – 82 points

The Silverstone-based side sits in a strange position on the table. They would’ve hoped to be chasing the top of the pack after last season, with Fernando Alonso being pretty consistent on the podium; however they are miles off Mercedes points tally.

It’s been slow and steady for the team, with their best finish being 14 points in Canada, in which Alonso finished sixth and Lance Stroll finished seventh.

They have only managed to climb as high as fifth this year, yet all hopes will lie on their new signing, Adrian Newey, to boost them up the order next year.

Visa Cash App Racing Bulls – 34 points

VCARB, as they’ve been nicknamed, have found themselves in a points race with Haas.

This isn’t where they would have liked to have been, as last season they raced more in the midfield and were a lot closer to the front.

Racing Bulls have achieved a seventh-place finish, but Yuki Tsnudoda is outperforming his seasoned teammate Daniel Ricciardo; he is behind by 10 points, and these are vital coming up to the end of the season.

Haas – 29 points

Just five championship points separate the American team from sixth place, The side led by new team principal Ayao Kotmatsu has been rejuvinated after finishing at the bottom last year.

Nico Hulkenburg has helped the team tremendously, scoring 22 points and often being aided by strategic driving by Kevin Magnussen.

Haas have opted for a brand new driver line-up for 2025, with Hulkenburg leaving the team next year to go to the new Audi project, replacing Kick Sauber, with rookie Ollie Bearman taking his seat.

Bearman recently scored a championship point for the team in Baku after Magnussen received a race ban for reaching the maximum allocation for penalty points.

Williams – 16 points

Williams has struggled so far. They have had glimpses of great pace, but when it comes down to the race, the car has not seemed to be there.

They are the only team so far to make an in-season driver change, with rookie Franco Colapinto stepping up to replace Logan Sargeant.

The British manufacturer has seemed to make improvements, and in Baku they scored ten points, a current season’s best.

Alpine – 13 points

It has been misery for the French side, at the start of the year, they looked as if no points were anywhere near.

Alpine got their development completely wrong, and the driver pairing of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly didn’t help, with the Frenchmen once again clashing and hurting them in the standings.

Kick Sauber – 0 points

The future Audi team is yet to pick up a point, with Valterri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu struggling in the car.

The team is looking to 2026, where they will re-invent themselves into Audi F1 just in time for the new regulations.
