Zandvoort has a rich history in Formula 1, having hosted its first Grand Prix in 1952. The circuit remained a staple of the Formula 1 calendar until 1985. The Dutch Grand Prix made a return to Zandvoort in 2021 after a 36-year absence. The event marked the return of Formula 1 racing to the circuit, drawing significant attention from fans around the world. In preparation for the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix, Circuit Zandvoort underwent significant upgrades, including the banking of certain corners, enhancing the challenge and excitement for drivers.
Zandvoort is known for its challenging and undulating layout, featuring high-speed corners, elevation changes, and limited runoff areas. The first corner of the circuit, named Tarzanbocht, is a hairpin turn that often sees intense battles at the start of races. The final corner of the circuit is named after Dutch racing driver Arie Luyendyk, who achieved success in both Formula 1 and IndyCar racing.
